Another not-to-be-missed tour is the Museum of Anthropology/Museo Nacional de Antropología.

Mexico City has the world's biggest anthropology museum, and it chronicles the history of the Meso-American people: The Aztecs, the Incas, and the Mayas in the new world. The museum was built in the 60s; it has really great architecture and sculpture of that period. Like much of Mexico City the museum is very overwhelming. With literally thousands of years of history, this museum is a thorough look at ancient civilizations.

There's a lot of history covered in the museum. Everything's in Spanish. This is one museum tour where you absolutely need an English language tour guide to understand and appreciate the experience. At minimum, I would say two to three hours spent with a guide going through this museum should be expected.

To do this right, you need to have an English language tour guide, because even if you speak Spanish, there is a whole lot more detail, history, and depth to the pieces and displays there that you need an expert to explain what you are seeing.

We recommend the “Mexico Unearthed” tour on AirBNB Experiences. The tour guide is a Ph.D. expert and speaks perfect English to guide you through the museum.
