Alebrijes

These funky looking creatures are the traditional Mexican spirit animal. They're combinations of different animals like an owl and a dog, or a crocodile and a cat. You will see vendors selling these little felt, stuffed creatures all over town. Fancier ones are made from carved wood, and are a bit more expensive.They are brightly colored, somewhat surreal, and completely charming!

I would recommend buying them. They're only around $8 for a small felt one, and lightweight and easy to carry home. What a great gift for an eclectic friend!

But look for your specific Alebrije. What resonates with you? Mine is a crocodile-platypus that's pink.
