Antibiotics and Imodium

Before you come to Mexico, you want to ask your doctor for a travel antibiotic.

One of the common travel antibiotics is Ciprofloxacin. If you experience extreme diarrhea or really bad nausea, you can take this medicine for a couple of days and make sure that you knock out whatever bacteria is making you sick. Discuss with your doctor proper guidelines for taking a travel antibiotic. Some travel antibiotics can also help with respiratory, ear, or skin infections as well.

You don't want to take Imodium for diarrhea in Mexico, especially if the diarrhea is extreme or painful. Pepto Bismol is fine. The problem is Imodium slows down your digestive tract, but if you have a bacterial infection, you actually want to get rid of what is making you sick before it can replicate in your gut. So, you don't want to hold it in by taking Immodium.
